On This Day... 13th June

For the Doctor and his companions today was very nearly a Day of Darkness in 1964. This was the fourth and final episode of The Aztecs. Unusually, the villain of the piece not only avoided any sort of comeuppance, but actually came out of the story even stronger. The series was never this brave again.
In 1970, the world came to a fiery end. Luckily it was the alternative Earth and not our own, in the sixth instalment of Inferno.

Today we wish actor, director and biographer Simon Callow a very happy 73rd birthday. As well as portraying his literary hero Charles Dickens twice in the series (The Unquiet Dead and The Wedding of River Song) he voiced the male Blathereen in The Gift, one of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
He shares his birthday with Gary Watson, who played Arthur Terrall in The Evil of the Daleks. He turns 92 today.
