K is for... Kirksen

One of the convicts sentenced to life imprisonment on the primitive planet of Desperus - known as "the Devil's Planet". When the Spar ship piloted by Bret Vyon crash-landed in the dense jungles of Desperus, pursued by a Dalek craft, Kirksen was one of those nearby who determined to hijack it in order to escape.
Travelling with Vyon were the Doctor, Steven Taylor and Katarina. The Doctor devised an electrical force-field which would keep the convicts at bay, but Kirksen managed to sneak on board just before the main doors were closed and it took off.
Kirksen seized Katarina and pulled her into the airlock. He demanded that they pilot the ship to Kembel, hoping for some reward from the Daleks.
Knowing that the fate of millions depended on the success of the Doctor's mission, Katarina elected to sacrifice herself by opening the outer door to the airlock. Both were sucked out into space.

Played by: Douglas Sheldon. Appearances: The Daleks' Master Plan (1965/ 66).
  • Kirksen appears only in the third episode of the story - Devil's Planet - plus the opening scene of the fourth - The Traitors.
  • Sheldon was a pop singer before concentrating on acting. He had a couple of Top 40 hits but never made it beyond No.36 in the charts.
  • He once shared a flat with Michael Caine and Sean Connery, before they found fame.
