TARDISMusings Is On Holiday...

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I'm off on back-to-back holidays after today and won't be posting regularly until the beginning of October. The Invasion (6) is scheduled to post automatically this Sunday (13th).

I do have a couple of other things ready to go, but am saving them for when I get back so that the first week or so is already covered.

Blog Update - Holidays

Just to give you plenty of notice, but I've got some holidays coming up next month - two trips back-to-back in the second half of September. This will mean there won't be any regular posts after Thursday 10th September until the beginning of October. I'll put up a reminder before I go.

Blog Update April 2026

Meant to post this sooner but I'm away on holiday for a week from Saturday 11th April, returning the evening of Sunday 19th. Visiting London again, but don't expect to see any Daleks on Westminster Bridge like these lucky people above (though I am getting to visit inside the Palace of Westminster on the 18th).

I may finally make it to Milton Keynes to visit the Sci-Fi Museum, however, and will inflict more of my holiday snaps on you should I get there...

I'll post the next Episode - The Wheel in Space (1) - on Monday 20th April, after which things will get back to normal, though a new rota at work might mean different days to what you're used to. 

Hopefully there will be two more posts this week before I go - Inspirations: The Husbands of River Song (Tues) and Story 314: Lux (Thurs).

Naturally, if any big news breaks while I'm away I'll give you my thoughts on it.

Finally, a quick thank you to everyone for visiting this little blog of mine. I know that there are Doctor Who vlogs and podcasts all over the place these days, so it is very much appreciated. You have wonderful taste.

Holiday - Blog Update

I'm off on holiday again at the end of the week, so there will not be any posts between Saturday 22nd and Sunday 30th November, unless there's some big breaking news. My last couple of trips saw me visit the exhibition in Peterborough but sadly that has now closed, so I may instead take a day trip to the Museum of Science Fiction in Milton Keynes, which has quite a few Doctor Who exhibits.

As I've almost got to the end of The Ice Warriors in my 'Episodes' series, I plan to finish it off later this week, rather than leave the story hanging until December. I'll also set out what I think was wrong with Time and the Rani before I go (plenty of ammunition there, so should be straightforward).

Normal service should resume Tuesday 2nd December.

Blog Update

Just a little reminder that I'm off to London again at the end of this week. There won't be any posts between Saturday 26th July and Monday 4th August, unless some big news breaks.

At this point I'm still not sure if I'll be popping back to revisit the exhibition at Peterborough, or leaving this until later in the year. (I'm visiting London with someone who has never been, so have a pretty packed itinerary and probably won't have time).

Peterborough Pics

Yesterday I visited the Doctor Who exhibition at Peterborough Museum and took lots and lots of pictures. I'm going to post a few each week, grouped into a theme - Daleks, Cybermen etc. The first one will be Sea Devils & Silurians.

They have crammed an awful lot into the exhibition - models, props and costumes, both original and reproductions - and I would strongly recommend a visit if you get the chance.

I'll also post something about the DWAS "60's Girl Power" event at Riverside Studios later this week.

Blog reminder

Just a quick reminder that I'm now taking a short break, attending the DWAS "60's Girl Power" event at the weekend plus a visit to the Doctor Who exhibition at Peterborough. I'll won't be reviewing Wish World until after I get back on Wednesday 28th May.

Blog Update

You may recall that I'm going to be attending another DWAS event in London at the end of May - dubbed "Girl Power" - which has as guests Carole Ann Ford, Maureen O'Brien, Anneke Wills and Wendy Padbury. (A couple of other guests have since been added - Virginia Wetherell, who played Dyoni in The Daleks, and Felicity Gibson, who played Kando in The Dominators. Slightly off topic, though it was filmed in the 1960's, there is also going to be an appearance by Constance Carling, who was the Auton secretary in Spearhead From Space).

All this takes place on Sunday 25th May. This would have been a flying visit - down on Saturday 24th and back home on the Monday.

I also said that I intended to visit the new Doctor Who exhibition at Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery at some point.

Looking into the latter, I quickly realised that the easiest way to get there, living as I do in Glasgow, is to actually travel from London on a day trip whilst there on one of my regular visits.

I've therefore decided to prolong this visit in order to spend the day in Peterborough, on Tuesday 27th, with me now returning home on Wednesday 28th.

This will mean a slightly longer break in the blog, and my review of Wish World won't be posted until after I'm back. (I'll have to watch it on my tablet, and might want to rewatch on a decent sized screen).

Also, my review of The Reality War certainly won't be posted until the day after broadcast - as I've booked myself a ticket to see it in the cinema, and will no doubt be frequenting a hostelry thereafter.

It has been stated that the Peterborough exhibition may be added to later in the summer, so I may make another trip before it's due to finish in the Autumn. From a video I've seen of it as it stands, there's a lot packed in already.

Capitol Cutaway This Weekend

 

Just a quick reminder that I am away again this weekend, attending the DWAS Capitol Cutaway event at Hammersmith in London. It takes place on Sunday, but I'm making a holiday of it and travelling down Thursday and not returning until Tuesday 8th. I'll have one further quick post this week - either a What's Wrong With... or an Inspirations - on Wednesday night, then it will be a case of reviewing the event after my return.

I don't have anything else planned for the next month or two, so things will finally settle down after the house move and hols. I do plan to visit the big new Doctor Who exhibition at Peterborough Museum in the not too distant future, but unlikely before June.

Blog Update

I'm afraid there's going to be another break in posts as I'm in the middle of packing prior to a house move later this week. (I'm also working my way through the Season 7 Collection when I do have any spare time - will review next week). The internet won't be set up at the new place until Monday 24th, so I'm pausing the blog until everything's sorted out.

I'll finish The Macra Terror episodes when back up and running again, then the usual posts will resume - Inspirations, What's Wrong With... and the A-Z - but then there's another short break as I visit London for a long weekend to attend the DWAS Capitol Cutaway event on 6th April.

The week after that sees the launch of Series 15, so I'll be resting the story reviews until after it has finished - since I'll be writing new episode reviews instead.

Those reviews are likely to be posted on the Sunday after broadcast, so it will mean a temporary move for the Episode posts to a weekday for the duration of Series 15.

I'll let you know if anything changes, but thank you for your patience in the meantime.

Birthday Break

It's my birthday next week and I'm off on holiday once again. The blog will therefore be pausing for a week or so after "The Art of..." tomorrow. 

I'll be heading back to London, hopefully avoiding Cybermen on the local bus route and dodging Daleks on Westminster Bridge. No Doctor Who related events to attend this trip (though there will be in early April), but I'll probably be popping into the Who Shop again at some point.

A bit of advance notice: I'm moving house later in March and the internet may not be set up in time for the move-in, so there may have to be another brief pause if there's any delay sorting this out. Will let you know nearer the time.

In the meantime, there won't be any posts between Saturday 1st and Sunday 9th March, unless there's any big news to comment on. As you are no doubt aware by now, the next series commences on Saturday 12th April, and one of the episodes sees Alan Cumming voice the cartoon character seen in the trailer - Mr Ring-a-Ding. he previously played King James VI and I in The Witchfinders.

On (W)holiday

As I mentioned the other day, I'm off on holiday again. I'll be back on Monday 25th when I should have a report on the above event which I'm attending whilst I'm in London. A few more guests have been added since this poster was released - Pik-Sen Lim (Captain Chin Lee from The Mind of Evil), Paul Grist (Bill Filer from The Claws of Axos) and Fernanda Marlowe, who played UNIT's Corporal Bell in both stories. 

As well as all these guests, they'll be screening three Season 8 episodes. I'll also be popping into the Who Shop again at some point, as well as doing lots of touristy stuff.

It's that time of the year, so off on a short holiday. Am away tomorrow (6th) until 13th August, so no new posts during that period, unless some big news breaks.

I'm taking a short holiday this week, visiting London once again, so there won't be any new updates before 9th / 10th May.

As well as sightseeing locations where Daleks once trundled, or Cybermen once stomped, I'll also be dropping in to the sci-fi exhibition at Gunnersbury Park Museum, so expect a post on that very soon - hopefully on the 9th.

(You'll recall that I was there last year, for a VFX talk by Mike Tucker).

With Series 14 almost upon us (none of your Disneyfied Season One nonsense here) there will be a slight rejig of the weekend posts. "Episodes" will be moving to the Saturday for the duration of the new series, freeing up the Sunday for reviews of the new instalments. 

As I've previously mentioned, I don't want to post anything until after the BBC One broadcast on the Saturday evening, even if I watch the episodes on the i-Player earlier in the day.

Just a quick word to say that I have a visitor staying at the moment, and this means being out and about a bit more than usual. Posts will therefore be a little less frequent over the next couple of weeks (until 17th September).

Destination: Moon

Just to let you know that I am taking another short holiday, and just like the last time it will have a Doctor Who dimension. I'm off to London for a few days, during which I'll be attending the latest of the mini-conventions being held at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, where a number of Hartnell and Troughton stories were made. This now sold-out event is based around one of my all-time favourite stories - The Moonbase.

Guests include John Levene, who played a Cyberman in the story, Frazer Hines and AFM / production assistant Margot Hayhoe. An original Cyberman costume will be on display, and there will be photo and autograph sessions.

I may stick some photos of my own on the blog on Sunday, with a fuller report when I get back home, otherwise the blog will be on hiatus after today - back Friday 18th August.

Holiday

Thanks to that global pandemic and my own recent health concerns, now thankfully resolved, I haven't had a proper holiday for quite some time. I'm therefore taking myself off for the next week. Unless there is some big news item, I won't be posting again until Friday 7th July. There might be something this Sunday / Monday - to be confirmed.

The regular Sunday "Episodes" post will be put back a week, so Episode 75: Journey Into Terror will arrive on the 9th, followed soon after by The Art of The Chase.

The A-Z will continue covering the lives and times of the Master; I'll be looking at the inspiration behind Turn Left; working out what (if anything) went wrong with The Deadly Assassin; and the next story overview will be Extremis. (I'll be counting the trio of Monk episodes as two separate stories, as the second and third instalments are clearly two halves of a single storyline, whilst Extremis acts more as a prequel).

Blog Update

As mentioned in my post on Saturday, I will be going back into hospital on Wednesday 8th March, with an operation scheduled for the next day. (This will be two years to the day since I first fell ill, as long term followers may recall).

I'm told that I will be in 1 - 3 weeks. It's a stoma reversal op, so it all depends on how quickly the 'plumbing' starts working again, and I am mobile enough to please the physios.

Don't expect any posts 8th - 15th at all, and whilst in hospital I'll only post a quick text message if there is any major news.

Once I'm back home it'll be business as usual.

I'll be continuing the in-depth episode guides on Sundays with the third instalment of The Web Planet, with its associated "Art of..." following on the Friday. 

The story guide will move on to the penultimate episode of Class, and I'll be looking at what went wrong with Terror of the Zygons. (I'm sure we all know of at least one thing there...). In the next 'A-Z' post we profile the likes of Mr Magpie and Mags.

I'll also be bringing you the inspiration behind Planet of the Ood, and 'Countdown to 60' reaches No.18, which will be the last of the 1960's entries.

20th March sees the release of the Season 9 Collection box-set - so expect a review of that towards the end of the month.

I'm sure I will also have something to say about the DWM 60th Anniversary poll, as they promise to release the Hartnell / Troughton results in the next issue. You can vote on the Pertwee / Baker (T) stories now on the DWM website.
