Today in 1964 the programme featured its very first location filming, when actor Brian Proudfoot was despatched to Buckinghamshire to walk about a few country lanes dressed as the Doctor. These were scenes to be incorporated into the second episode of The Reign of Terror - Guests of Madame Guillotine.
Proudfoot would be seen in the series properly the following year, as Tigilinus in The Romans.
William Hartnell got to do a lovely bit of comedy business in this instalment, in the sequence involving the greedy road gang overseer.
