In 1968, long before there was such a thing as Star Wars, Wendy Padbury made her first appearance in the series as Zoe, in the second episode of The Wheel in Space.
Whilst it was a new beginning for her, it was the beginning of the end for Jon Pertwee, as the Third Doctor's final story got underway in 1974 - Planet of the Spiders.
In 2013 Mark Gatiss gave us The Crimson Horror.
It didn't take me too long to find a connection between one of the Doctor Who stories broadcast today and a Star Wars movie. One of the spacesuits worn by the crew of the Wheel was reused in The Empire Strikes Back for the bounty hunter Bossk. It had earlier been glimpsed on the person of one of the aliens in the Cantina sequence in the first film. Doctor Who fans would also have known the suit from the very first Cyberman story - The Tenth Planet.
