When Maria Jackson first moved into Bannerman Road with her father, she made the acquaintance of a girl named Kelsey Hooper. She encouraged Maria to pay a visit to the Bubble Shock! factory, despite her not liking the soft drink. Despite a ban on the use of mobile phones on the tour Kelsey used hers. She was captured by the company boss Miss Wormwood, who was actually an alien Bane in disguise. Her species were susceptible to mobile phone signals. After having her mind scanned, Kelsey was released and then used by the Bane to track down the home of Sarah Jane Smith. When the Bane activated one of the drink's ingredients it turned its users into mindless zombies. This happened to Kelsey. Following the defeat of the Bane everyone - including Kelsey - had their memories of the incident wiped. Maria had no more to do with Kelsey, as Sarah Jane did not want her involved in her work.

- Fans breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that Kelsey would not be featuring in the first full season of the show. Meant as comic relief, she came across as simply annoying.
- Officially the production team wanted to redress the gender balance by introducing another male character (Clyde) but rumours persist that she was not liked on set. Her acting career never progressed.
- In 2019 she was arrested for possession of drugs and suspected of dealing, but the charges were dropped.
