On This Day... 17th May

In 1969 The War Games reached the halfway mark with the debut of Part Five.
Yesterday we had brand new filming with David Tennant and Catherine Tate, but back in 2008 The Unicorn and the Wasp saw their first filming together with Tate as a full-time companion, rather than as a Christmas guest star.

Today's birthday of note is that of BBC 3 TV presenter Alistair Ferguson of The Passing Parade fame...
Yes, actor David Simeon turns 79 today. As well as his memorable role in The Daemons, he also portrayed a UNIT soldier in Inferno - Private Latimer.
He shares his birthday with Corey Johnson - Henry Van Statten in Dalek - who is 61, and with Catherine Howe, who portrayed the Atlantean girl Ara in The Underwater Menace. She is 72 today.

Today would also have been the birthday of actor Tenniel Evans (d. 2009, aged 83), who played Major Daly in Carnival of Monsters. It was he who first suggested to Jon Pertwee, his co-star on The Navy Lark, that he put himself forward to replace Patrick Troughton.
We also remember actor Hugh Burden who passed away on this date in 1985, aged 72. He played the Auton replica Channing in Jon Pertwee's debut story, Spearhead From Space.

  1. IN 1987 Tenniel Evans took over Patrick Troughton's Roll as Perce in the Nicholas Lyndhurst/Janet Dibley ITV sitcom "The Two Of Us" after Patrick Troughton's untimely passing, playing the roll from series two onwards (Patrick Troughton played the roll in series one).
