And the 14th Doctor is...

... Ncuti Gatwa.
The BBC surprised everyone by slipping out the identity of the next Doctor on a Sunday lunchtime. He's Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa, 29, who is of Rwandan descent, and obviously becomes the series' first ethnic minority Doctor.
Following Whittaker's first ever female Doctor, it was inevitable that an actor from this background wouldn't be far behind. Many people actually thought that the next Doctor would be both female and black.
If you've ever been to a Doctor Who event, like a convention, you'll have noticed that they aren't exactly the most diverse of events, as far as ethnicity is concerned. No doubt the BBC will be hoping that Ncuti's casting will appeal to a section of the TV audience who have so far failed to be engaged by the series.
A very low key announcement, considering that Whittaker was unveiled in a specially made teaser shown in the middle of a major sporting event, and Capaldi had a whole TV programme built around his announcement.
We knew that the reveal would have to be soon as the 60th Anniversary story will be filming out on location on the streets of Cardiff in the first week of June, so the new Doctor would almost certainly have been spotted then anyway.
