On This Day... 6th April

Fury From The Deep arrived at its fourth instalment today in 1968.
In 1974 The Monster of Peladon was on its fourth episode.
In 2013 the Doctor took Clara to her first alien planet in The Rings of Akhaten.

Today we wish Mark Strickson a happy 63rd birthday. He played companion Turlough from 1983's Mawdryn Undead to Planet of Fire in 1984.
Offered a role in the hospital soap Angels, he preferred the Turlough role, but auditions were still some way off. He approached producer JNT directly and was seen early. JNT considered having him shave his hair off, to which Strickson replied that he would want extra money for loss of earnings. Instead, he had his hair dyed red, as JNT thought he could be mistaken for Peter Davison in long shot - despite the fact that the Doctor wore a light coloured ensemble and Turlough was given a black school uniform. He later moved to Australia and became a successful wildlife film producer, including work with "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin.

He shares his birthday with Richard Willis, who played Varsh, brother to Adric, in Full Circle, and who was once married to Rani actor Kate O'Mara. He turns 64.
Glen Murphy was also born on this day. He appeared as one of the Kinda tribe, before getting the more substantial role of Dibber in Trial of a Time Lord parts 1 - 4. He is 65.
Another birthday is that of Terrence Hardiman - "the Demon Headmaster" - who featured as Hawthrone in The Beast Below. He is 85 today.

Those we lost on this date include Honor Blackman (d. 2020, Prof Lasky in Trial of a Time Lord Parts 9 - 12); Keith Pyott (d. 1968, Autloc in The Aztecs) and James Garbutt (d. 2020, Ronson in Genesis of the Daleks).
