The Doctor first encountered The Celestial Toymaker in The Celestial Toyroom today in 1966 - on screen at least. According to the Doctor they had met each other before, albeit very briefly.
The Hinchcliffe-Holmes era came to an end today in 1976, with the sixth instalment of The Talons of Weng-Chiang bringing Season 14 to a close.
Today would have been Robert Holmes' 96th birthday.
In 2005 the revived series moved on to its second episode - The End of the World.
Jones wrote The Space Museum in 1965, and a decade later he was featuring in the series as the Galsec astronaut Krans in The Sontaran Experiment.
He passed away today in 2014, aged 82.
Another writer we remember is Johnny Byrne. John Nathan-Turner's first choice as Script Editor when he took over as Producer, Byrne declined as he was settled with his family in rural Norfolk.
He agreed to contribute a story for Season 18 instead - The Keeper of Traken. (Byrne's home was called Keeper's Cottage). As Nyssa was created for this story, and not by the Producer / Script Editor, Byrne was paid £50 for each story she featured in. He followed this with Arc of Infinity and then with Warriors of the Deep. He was very unhappy with the realisation of the latter and did not want to contribute further to the series. A proposed sequel to Traken had earlier been rejected.
Byrne died in 2008, aged 72.
