On This Day... 4th January

Peter Davison made his debut proper today in 1981, as Season 19 got underway.
The story Castrovalva was actually recorded half way through his first season, to enable the actor to settle into the part and be more confident when the viewers first got to see him.
Earlier, The Daleks reached its third episode - The Escape - today in 1964.
In 1968 The Krotons delivered its second episode, as did Tom Baker's debut Robot in 1975.
Season 25 came to an end with the fourth and final episode of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy in 1988. This was the last time we would have heard a BBC continuity announcer reassure us that a new series would follow next year - at least for the next 16 years.
In 2004, Scream of the Shalka also came to a conclusion with its sixth instalment. Today just happens to be the 84th birthday of one of its stars - Jim Norton, who voiced Major Kennet. He's best known as Bishop Brennan in Father Ted.
