First things first - we wish Tom Baker a very happy 88th birthday today.
One of his stories opened on this date when Part One of The Armageddon Factor made its debut.
Earlier, The Enemy of the World had reached its fifth episode in 1967, and The Three Doctors its concluding fourth chapter in 1973.
Today also saw the concluding instalment of The Awakening in 1984 - the last old-style two-parter of the Classic Series.
Today we remember the actor Kevin Stoney, who gave us two of the series' most memorable villains - Mavic Chen in the 12-part The Daleks' Master Plan, and Tobias Vaughn in the 8-part The Invasion. He had another run-in with the Cybermen when he played the Vogan council leader Tyrum in Revenge of the Cybermen. He turned down a West End play to portray Vaughn.
A fanzine mistakenly printed an obituary of him several years before he passed away, which was on this day in 2008, at the age of 86.
We also remember the hugely talented VFX maestro Ian Scoones, who died in 2010 at the age of 69. He worked on the show mainly in the 1970's, but was also a veteran of the Gerry Anderson serials and Hammer horror films.
