On This Day... 18th August

The Middle Men, the latest instalment of Torchwood: Miracle Day in 2011 gave us some background to the Miracle and the people behind it. The action was split between the US and Wales, and the highlight was undoubtedly the explosive rescue by Gwen and Rhys of her father.

Amongst today's birthdays we have that of Joseph Marcell, who turns 74. He played cafe worker John in Remembrance of the Daleks, but will be best known for his role as English butler Geoffrey in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
He shares his birthday with Roy Boyd, who played Driscoll in The Hand of Fear, who is 84; and John Debney, who composed the music for the 1996 Paul McGann movie. He is 66.
Rob Cavazos, who played Walter in A Town Called Mercy, is 40.

We also remember a few guest artists of the classic era who died on this date:
Michael Napier-Brown (Arturo Villar in The War Games) - 2016 aged 79,
James Maxwell (Jackson in Underworld) - in 1995 aged 66,
Tom Watson (Ramo in The Underwater Menace) - in 2001 aged 69,
Reg Lever (Joker in The Celestial Toymaker) - in 1985 aged 81,
And Barbara Leake (Mrs Farrell in Terror of the Autons) - in 1991, aged 88.
