Those of us who have the enhanced subscription to DWM should have started to receive the latest Special Edition today. This one concentrates on the many guest artists who have featured in the series over the years.
It is split into half decades, each having a general overview. These are followed by half or quarter page summaries of the actors, covering their role(s) in the series and work they are famous for outside the show.
One guest for each half-decade is selected for particular scrutiny, getting a double-page spread.
These do seem to be rather randomly selected: Julian Glover, Michael Gough, Michael Wisher, Philip Madoc, Christopher Gable, Sheila Hancock, Carey Mulligan, Kylie Minogue, David Warner and Alan Cumming. I'm fine with the list up to Philip Madoc, but thereafter it seems a rather arbitrary choice.
Warner's recent death is mentioned, so it looks like he was always going to be featured in this way.
As they guested in stories before they became Doctors, Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi are included.
Despite becoming a companion a short time later, Karen Gillan's role in The Fires of Pompeii isn't regarded as a big enough guest spot to warrant a mention.
One very notable omission is Bernard Cribbins. He was very much a guest star on Voyage of the Damned before becoming regular Wilf Mott.
There's one big new interview - with casting director Andy Pryor.
The Special is very well illustrated, with a few rare photographs. A lot of interest will come from seeing the non-Who work of most of the actors.
In the shops from 11th August, £7.99.
