Professor Kyle was taking part in a geological expedition at a remote cave system when the party came under attack by a pair of mysterious figures. The only survivor, she was encouraged to return to the scene of the attack to help guide Commander Scott and his troops. The year was 2526, and Earth was on high alert because of an important conference which was about to take place - so any odd incidents needed to be investigated thoroughly. Scott could not be sure that Kyle wasn't involved in the incident herself.
The killers proved to be androids, controlled from deep space by the Cybermen. The conference was designed to create an alliance against them, and they intended to destroy it with a bomb hidden in the cave system.
Kyle accompanied Scott and some of his troopers when the Doctor took the TARDIS to a space freighter - source of the androids' signal. She surrendered her overalls to Tegan when the Doctor's companion wanted to accompany Scott in exploring the spacecraft, whilst Kyle wanted to remain in the safety of the TARDIS. However, the Cybermen gained access and Kyle was killed when she tried to stop them entering the console room.

- She later appeared in the Torchwood episode Fragments as Milton, the woman who was blackmailing Tosh into creating a sonic device.
