On This Day... 12th August

Today we wish Sharon D Clarke MBE a happy 56th birthday.
She played Graham's wife Grace in The Woman Who Fell To Earth. The character was killed at the conclusion, but Clarke was able to return to the series occasionally in various ways - such as when the Solitract took on her appearance in It Takes You Away
Today would also have been producer John Nathan-Turner's birthday. He died in 2002, aged only 54.
It would also have been the 100th birthday of Fulton Mackay, who played Dr Quinn in The Silurians. He was top of the list to play the Fourth Doctor, but declined in favour of the sitcom Porridge, which made him a household name.

Today we also remember Ann Tirard, who played court poisoner Locusta in The Romans, and the Seeker in The Ribos Operation. She passed away on this date in 2003, aged 86.

News today also of the death of Doctor Who fan Ian McLachlan, who featured on a number of the DVD documentaries. He was 68. Ian was a fan of the show from the very start. I think I read once that he only ever missed one episode. He wrote on the series, with a special interest in the Hartnell era. You will find his work in DWAS publications, including all of their Celestial Toyroom annuals. (These feature a single Doctor's era per annual, with essays on each story. Covered so far have been the First, Second, Third, Seventh, Eleventh and Twelfth. They are free to download and can be found here: http://www.dwasonline.co.uk/ct_annual).
Do check them out, if you haven't already discovered them, and read Ian's work.
