The Abominable Snowmen reached its thrilling climax today in 1967, with the debut broadcast of its sixth episode.
On the same day in 1978 The Stones of Blood moved on to its second instalment.
The Tsuranga Conundrum wasn't thrilling, but it was abominable. We first had to suffer it today in 2018.
Today we remember the composer Dudley Simpson, who passed away on this day in 2017. He was 95. Simpson was the "court composer" for Doctor Who in the 1970's, though his involvement with the show went back to Planet of Giants in 1964. One of the worst things JNT ever did was sack Simpson, replacing him with radiophonic music much of which now appears badly dated. Simpson's work, on the other hand, is timeless.
He and soundsmith Dick Mills formed a brilliant creative partnership.
Simpson was given a cameo role - as the Palace Theatre orchestra conductor in The Talons of Weng-Chiang.
