Torchwood: Children of Earth continued in 2009 with Day Two. The previous day had seen the destruction of the Hub, thanks to a bomb planted inside Captain Jack. Today we saw the team on the run, rescuing the resurrected Jack and shifting the focus away from Cardiff to London.
Today we wish VFX maestro Mat Irvine a very happy 74th birthday. He first worked on Doctor Who as an assistant to the assistant (Ian Scoones) on The Curse of Peladon, where he fitted a tiny bulb into the model TARDIS. His memories of working on Doctor Who will always be somewhat clouded by thoughts on the Myrka and Erato, but these issues ought really to be put down to the respective production teams. In his later years he has become the custodian of K9.
Beatle Ringo Starr, who featured in The Chase, also has a birthday today. He is 82.
We should also remember the actor Ewen Solon, who made two appearances in the series (opposite Frederick Jaeger on both occasions). The first was as Chal in The Savages, and the second was as Vishinsky in Planet of Evil. He died on this date in 1985, aged 67.
Today would also have been the birthday of Third Doctor Jon Pertwee.
