K is for... Knight, Captain

Army officer in charge of the government fortress beneath Goodge Street during the Yeti invasion of London. He took charge whilst awaiting the arrival of a new CO, after Colonel Pemberton had been killed.
Knight had to work with the bad tempered scientist Professor Edward Travers and his daughter Anne in devising methods of stopping the spread of a lethal web-like substance through the Underground network. Matters were complicated when his soldiers discovered Jamie and Victoria in the tunnels. He suspected they might be involved, initially.
Travers explained to Knight that the Doctor would be able to help them, and a search for him be made immediately. It was Knight's new CO, Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart, who found him and brought him to the Goodge Street fortress.
When the Doctor needed electronic spares for a device which could counter the Yeti he made for some electrical supply shops in the Covent Garden area, and Captain Knight accompanied him. The agent of the Great Intelligence operating in the fortress ensured that the Yeti knew where they were by planting a homing device, and Knight was killed.

Played by: Ralph Watson. Appearances: The Web of Fear (1968).
  • The role of Captain Knight was originally given to Nicholas Courtney. It was only when the actor playing Lethbridge-Stewart had to pull out that Courtney was "promoted" and Knight recast with Watson.
  • Watson would return to the series as rebel miner Ettis in The Monster of Peladon, and as lighthouse keeper Ben in Horror of Fang Rock.
