The actor David Spenser passed away on this date in 2013, aged 79. As well as playing Thonmi in The Abominable Snowmen, he was the life partner of Victor Pemberton, writer of Fury from the Deep and, very briefly, the series' story editor.
You may also have seen him in the British sci-fi movie The Earth Dies Screaming. As a teenager he was the voice of Richmal Crompton's William on radio.
Spenser held the main "juvenile" role in the Yeti story. A number of actors have fulfilled this role over the years - some, such as Carey Mulligan or Andrew Garfield, going on to become big Hollywood stars.
A couple of juvenile guest artists have birthdays today:
Sinead Michaels arrived in the final season of The Sarah Jane Adventures to play the new regular character of Sky, only for the series to be cancelled on the death of its star. She turns 24 today.
Rory Jennings, who played Tommy in The Idiot's Lantern, appears to have become a full time Chelsea FC supporter / podcaster. He always looked younger than he was and so was cast in juvenile roles, and today turns 39.
Cosima Shaw who played Steffi in The Waters of Mars is 50.
Johnathan Morris starred in the sitcom Bread, and looked like he had a glittering career in front of him, but then just seemed to disappear from TV screens. He was Chela in Snakedance, and is 62 today.
Jeff Rawle was young Plantagenet in Frontios, and would much later feature in Mona Lisa's Revenge, one of The Sarah Jane Adventures. He is 71 today.
