On This Bastille Day... 14th July

Season 1 is still running, but we haven't reached the French Revolution story yet. Here's to Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite anyway. (Other slogans are available).
The final series of Torchwood got underway today in 2011. This had the overarching title of Miracle Day, and this opening instalment was called New World.
I say final, but the door is always open for its return - especially now that RTD is back in charge of Doctor Who. It all depends on any potential rehabilitation of John Barrowman's reputation. A spin-off of the spin-off without him is also an option.

One of Miracle Day's writers was Jane Espenson, and she just happens to have a birthday today. She turns 58.
She shares her birthday with Adam Blackwood (Balazar in Trial of a Time Lord 1 - 4), who is 63; and comic actor David Mitchell (who, with Robert Webb, voiced the robots in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship) who is 48.

We also remember a number of guest artists from the classic era.
Margot van der Burgh appeared as the Doctor's fiancée Cameca in The Aztecs, and then portrayed Consul Katura in The Keeper of Traken. She passed away on this date in 2008, aged 73.
Olaf Pooley was Prof Stahlman(n) in Inferno. He died in 2015 aged 101.
Robert Cartland voiced the Rills in Galaxy 4, and also played delegate Malpha in Mission to the Unknown (though not in The Daleks' Master Plan). He died in 2011 aged 89.
Comedy great Hugh Lloyd was the enigmatic Garonwy in Delta and the Bannermen. He died in 2008 aged 85.
Finally, Jack Woolgar - Staff Sergeant Arnold and host to the Great Intelligence in The Web of Fear - passed away on this date in 1978, aged 64.
