It's a happy 70th birthday to Celia Imrie today. She played Miss Kizlet, slave of the Great Intelligence, in The Bells of Saint John. I covered her and the character just the other week in my "K is for..." A-Z post, so no need to repeat myself.
Someone else I wrote about recently was Raf de la Torre - the senior judge in The Keys of Marinus. He passed away on this date in 1975, aged 67.
We also lost Maurice Roeves today in 2020, aged 83. He was the sadistic gun-runner Stotz in The Caves of Androzani.
One of the unsung heroes of the programme's early days would have had his birthday today. Jack Pitt died in 2003, aged 62.
He had one notable on-screen appearance in The Chase, as the cabin steward who only spots the Daleks after all his crewmates have already dived into the sea. In the same story he played a Mire Beast, a Fungoid and a Mechonoid. He first appeared in The Web Planet, playing one of the Zarbi as well as a Sting-grub.
In The Daleks' Master Plan he got to operate one of the titular monsters, as well as playing alien delegate Gearon. Fed up with hotels, William Hartnell used to stay with Pitt during the week whilst Doctor Who was in production.
