A very busy day today for Doctor Who episodes over the years.
In 1964 we had the first half of The Edge of Destruction - a cheap two part story which was potentially designed to end the series (though presumably in that instance the ending would have been changed to have Ian and Barbara back in London).
At the other end of the monochrome era, in 1969, The Seeds of Death reached its third instalment.
No Pertwee stories today, so the next episode to make its debut was The Ark in Space Part Three, in 1975.
The remaining episodes are all Davison ones: Kinda Part Three in 1982; Mawdryn Undead Part Three in 1983; and Resurrection of the Daleks Part One in 1984.
The latter was broadcast as a 45 minute double episode, due to Winter Olympics coverage. This helped plant the seeds for the decision to have the following season comprised only of 45 minute instalments. The Script Editor Eric Saward favoured these as writers didn't have to work in a cliff-hanger every 22 minutes.
Today we remember the actor Cyril Luckham, who appeared in three episodes over two stories. The first was Part One of The Ribos Operation where he appeared as the White Guardian, who sends the Doctor on his season-long mission to locate the Key to Time. The White Guardian then returned for Parts One and Four of Enlightenment.
Luckham passed away on this day in 1989, aged 81.
