Old episodes - better versions

We haven't had any news of rediscovered lost episodes since 2013, but the archives do still throw up the odd nice surprise. It was announced yesterday by Paul Vanezis of the Restoration Team that a couple of existing episodes from Season One have been found in better quality versions. It's all a bit technical - something to do with the difference between suppressed field copies and stored field copies.
Regular readers will know I've been itching for a 1960's Blu-ray collection release for some time. This new discovery means that the episodes which finally do appear will be of a much better quality than previously released on DVD. The ones mentioned in the article I read include The Daleks (7), The Aztecs (1) and Edge of Destruction (2), though there may be more to come.
The general consensus is that we won't see a Season One Collection set released until 2023, as it makes for an obvious 60th Anniversary tie-in. Same probably goes for the only near complete Troughton Season (Six). The door would still be open for a possible Season Two release in 2022, though I suspect we will get three releases next year - a Pertwee (Eleven?), a Tom Baker (Sixteen?) and a Davison (Twenty One?). Season Twenty is forever being rumoured as the next release, but it makes more sense to save that for the next big anniversary year.
