Ian Chesterton was facing a Sentence of Death today in 1964, in the fifth instalment of The Keys of Marinus.
The Third Doctor and UNIT were helping out at a drilling project which the workers had nicknamed the Inferno. The opening episode of this, the final story of Season 7, made its debut today in 1970.
We have a selection of guest artist birthdays today, plus one of the 1980's directors.
The latter is John Black, who directed The Keeper of Traken, Four to Doomsday and the K9 & Company pilot. He is 82 today.
Other birthdays include: Anna-Louise Plowman (Goddard in Dalek, 50), Patrick Ryecart (Crozier in Mindwarp, 70), Tessa Peake-Jones (Marta in The Time of the Doctor, 65), and Virginia Wetherell (Dyoni in The Daleks, 79). Many happy returns to them all.
Today would also have seen the birthdays of Carry On... star Joan Sims (Queen Katryca, The Mysterious Planet d.2001) and John Arnatt (Borusa, The Invasion of Time d.1999).
