K is for... Kent, Giles

When the Doctor arrived in Australia in the early 21st Century he was initially mistaken for a powerful political figure named Salamander. Some assassins attempted to kill him but he was saved by a helicopter pilot named Astrid Ferrier, who took him to see her boss - Giles Kent. He had once been a political ally of Salamander's, employed as Deputy Security Leader of the African and European Zones, but had fallen out with him after it became clear that Salamander wanted sole power for himself.
Kent was now trying to warn the world against the potential dictator. He needed evidence, and so coerced the Doctor into impersonating him to infiltrate his organisation.
Salamander was employing a group of scientists in an underground bunker to trigger seismic disturbances such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, believing they were attacking enemy bases.
It transpired that it had been Kent himself who had set this up some five years ago. He intended now to take over Salamander's operations and become a dictator himself.
Exposed, he tried to flee but was shot and killed by Salamander. His last dying act was to blow up the underground bunker, though the Doctor and his friends had managed to get the scientists to safety first.

Played by: Bill Kerr. Appearances: The Enemy of the World (1967).
  • Kerr was best known at the time for his comedy roles - especially his long-running appearances in Tony Hancock's radio show Hancock's Half Hour (1954 - 1959). In the late 1970's he relocated back to his native Australia and spent the remainder of his lengthy career there.
  • According to his family he died laughing (whilst watching the US comedy series Seinfeld) in 2014. He was 92.
