The Keys of Marinus saw the Doctor's companions face The Snows of Terror today in 1964. Hartnell himself was still on holiday this week.
In 1970 The Ambassadors of Death finally reached its conclusion after seven weeks.
The BBC's VFX Department was having nothing to do with Doctor Who when the first of those episodes was made, but they were involved with the latter. The Department was run by Jack Kine and Bernard Wilkie. As manager, Kine never worked on Doctor Who itself (though his image was used as the "Big Brother" figure in Inferno), but Wilkie did work directly on the show, on The Ice Warriors, The Mind Robber, Colony in Space, The Curse of Peladon, Frontier in Space and Planet of the Spiders. Through the 1970's he was usually assisted by Ian Scoones.
Wilkie passed away on this date in 2002, aged 82.
