On This Day... 18th May

The Cybermen finally got properly involved in The Wheel in Space today in 1968, in its fourth instalment.
Planet of the Spiders reached its half way point, Part Three, in 1974.
This week we've seen work begin on the 60th Anniversary Special(s), and nine years ago everyone was gearing up for the 50th.
The Name of the Doctor - Series 7's finale, which made its debut today in 2013 - ended on the shock reveal of John Hurt as a Doctor we knew nothing about. They're ten a penny these days...

Today we remember stuntman and fight arranger Roy Scammell, on the first anniversary of his death at the age of 88.
Known especially for high falls, he is seen performing these in both Inferno and in Delta and the Bannermen. The one for Inferno set a world record for the time, outbeating anything the James Bond films had done up to then. He was also seen falling off high things in Terror of the Autons, when the Master clobbers a technician at the radio-telescope station.
Another performance of note was when he had to double for Caroline John in The Ambassadors of Death, donning her costume to almost plunge into a river from a weir.
He also worked on several of the Bond movies, as well as sci-fi films Alien and Saturn 3.
