In 1971 the Master returned in The Mind of Evil Part Two. He was stuck on Earth due to the Doctor having stolen the dematerialisation circuit from his TARDIS in the previous story so could be expected to make a reappearance, but it was intended that he would feature in every story this season anyway - something which the producer and script editor quickly realised was a mistake.
One of the episode's stars was Neil McCarthy, who played the convict George Barnham. He would return to the series in 1978 as the refinery boss Thawn in The Power of Kroll.
McCarthy passed away on this day in 1985, aged only 52.
Also making its debut today was the Torchwood episode Meat in 2008.
Today we also remember the actor Harry Fielder, who passed away on this date in 2021 at the age of 80. Along with his friend Pat Gorman, Fielder (who was simply known as "H") appeared as a background artist in a large number of stories across the series' history. He came to the series later than Gorman (who first featured as a rebel in The Dalek Invasion of Earth) first appearing as a guard in The Enemy of the World.
Subsequent appearances were in The Wheel In Space, Planet of the Spiders, Revenge of the Cybermen, The Seeds of Doom, The Deadly Assassin, The Face of Evil, The Invisible Enemy, The Ribos Operation, The Armageddon Factor, Shada, Meglos and Castrovalva.
He generally played guards and soldiers where his features could be seen, rather than monsters - though he did get to be a Vogan in Revenge of the Cybermen, and the Krarg Commander in the unbroadcast Shada.
