The first ever Dalek story came to an end today in 1964, with its seventh episode - The Rescue.
Terry Nation quickly came to regret killing off his creations as it had become obvious by this time how popular the Daleks were, and thoughts had turned to a sequel.
In 1969 the second instalment of The Seeds of Death gave us our first proper look at the new Ice Warrior commander costume. Slaar was played by Alan Bennion, who would return in the two Jon Pertwee Peladon stories portraying other "Ice Lords".
The Ark in Space had also reached its second episode, today in 1975.
Into the Eighties, and two Peter Davison stories made their debuts on this day - Kinda, in 1982, and Mawdryn Undead in 1983, which introduced Mark Strickson as Turlough.
This latter episode saw the return of Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier after an eight year gap. The school-set story was supposed to have featured Ian Chesterton, and when William Russell proved unavailable Ian Marter was asked to return as Harry Sullivan. He was also unavailable, so Courtney came on board as third choice, and is why the Brigadier doesn't fit easily into the setting.
