The Cybermen made the first of many returns today in 1967, though the casual viewer may not have spotted it straight away. The original Cybermen came from the planet Mondas, and were all destroyed when that world disintegrated. They had human body parts and the mechanical enhancements on their bodies were very crude. The new version were much more steam-lined, and robotic. In a line of dialogue cut from the story they claimed to come from a new home planet named Telos.
We only got to see a glimpse of one at the cliff-hanger to Part One of The Moonbase.
Also today, in 1978, Gallifrey was under threat from the Vardans - and the Doctor, it seemed - as the second episode of The Invasion of Time made its debut.
