K is for... Kala

Inhabitant of the city of Millennius on the planet Marinus, Kala was the wife of museum relief guard Ayden. She and her husband had entered into a scheme with chief prosecutor Eyesen to steal an item from the museum - one of the microcircuit keys which operate the Conscience Machine.
Ayden killed a colleague named Eprin, and the blame was placed on Ian Chesterton. In Millennius, the law stated that you were guilty until proven innocent. When it looked like Ayden might break down and reveal their plans, Kala killed him with a gun she had smuggled into the courtroom. To stop the Doctor's friends from interfering, she then abducted Susan - threatening to kill her if they did not stop investigating.
When Eyesen saw to it that Ian had been condemned for the murder, he ordered Kala to kill Susan as she could identify her. However, Kala had let slip to Barbara Wright that she knew more than she was saying. Barbara and her friends forced their way into Kala's apartment and rescued Susan.
Even after her arrest Kala attempted to have Ian killed, by claiming to have been his accomplice.

Played by: Fiona Walker. Appearances: The Keys of Marinus (1964).
  • Walker returned to the series towards the end of its classic incarnation in 1988. She played another villain - the sorceress Lady Peinforte - in Silver Nemesis.
