Medical officer in charge of the infirmary at Gatwick Airport in 1967, Nurse Pinto had been abducted and replaced with an alien duplicate - a member of the Chameleon race. They were seeking to gain new physical identities for themselves through the kidnap of thousands of young people travelling on Chameleon Youth Tour charter flights. The infirmary provided an ideal base of operations in which key airport personnel could be duplicated. The real Nurse Pinto was held in a comatose state behind a secret panel in the unit - the fake nurse not wishing her original to be harmed in any way.
The Doctor coerced the Chameleon duplicate of Air Traffic Controller Meadows into revealing the role Pinto and the infirmary played in their scheme. Cornered, she killed a policeman before the Doctor could deactivate the armband on her original. The real nurse awoke, and the body of the duplicate dissolved.
Nurse Pinto then agreed to pretend to be her duplicate in order to help the Doctor get onto the Chameleon spacecraft in orbit above the Earth - pretending that he was a reprocessed Meadows duplicate.
The ruse failed and both were captured, but the Doctor soon overturned the Chameleon plans by turning them against each other.
