The BBC have finally gotten round to releasing the AI figures for the last series of Doctor Who, after previously saying they were no longer going to publish these. Longer term readers will know that I've always found these to be far more interesting than the audience numbers, as they tell you how much the viewers actually enjoyed the episodes - especially now that things like overnights don't really mean the same as they did thanks to all the various catch-up options available.
The new figures might look okay at first glance, but when you consider that the BBC expects something around 85 to be a success for a drama production then you can see these aren't great.
RTD's previous series in charge always saw mid to upper 80's figures, with certain event episodes getting into the low 90's.
Steven Moffat's Boom only manages a 78, matching his previous lowest AI score which was for Sleep No More. As he didn't actually write that story, this is his own personal new low. He has always been in the 80's for his own episodes.
Chibnall had quite a few episodes in the 70's, but the only series this consistently low since the revival was Flux.
The execrable Space Babies now has the lowest AI figure of the entire revived series.
