Two significant debuts on this day in Doctor Who history. First of all, in 1966, we had the first episode of The Tenth Planet, which featured our first glimpse of the Cybermen in its closing moments. These were the original cloth-faced incarnation, inhabitants of Earth's twin planet Mondas.
Then, in 1977, the Doctor's robot dog K9 made his debut with the second episode of The Invisible Enemy. At this point he was simply a guest character - the personal computer of Prof Marius at the Bi-Al Foundation.
Also on this day, in 2007, the concluding half of Eye of the Gorgon was broadcast on CBBC. This was the second story of The Sarah Jane Adventures first series.
