Season 25 came to an end with the fourth and final episode of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy in 1988. This was the last time we would have heard a BBC continuity announcer reassure us that a new series would follow next year - at least for the next 16 years.
In 2004, Scream of the Shalka also came to a conclusion with its sixth instalment. Today just happens to be the 84th birthday of one of its stars - Jim Norton, who voiced Major Kennet. He's best known as Bishop Brennan in Father Ted.
