Today, in 1966, the nightmare began...
It was the opening episode of what would prove to be a twelve part epic featuring the Daleks - The Daleks' Master Plan. The episode was titled The Nightmare Begins, though in many ways it had all started 5 week's previously with Mission to the Unknown.
Talking of nightmares, today in 1976 was also the day when the Fourth Doctor had his surreal ordeal against Chancellor Goth in the Matrix - in Part Three of The Deadly Assassin. The cliff-hanger unfortunately played into the hands of Mary Whitehouse, the Clean-Up TV evangelist, and so marked the beginning of the end for the Hinchcliffe-Holmes partnership.
A lot less controversial was the concluding half of SJA: Mona Lisa's Revenge, today in 2009.
Before we go we really ought to wish Perpugilliam Brown a happy 56th birthday. That's companion Peri - not the actress who played her. Peri's passport was clearly seen on screen in the first part of Planet of Fire, and it gave her DOB as 13th November 1965.
