Patrick Troughton was back from holiday for the fifth episode of The Evil of the Daleks today in 1967.
In 1972 The Time Monster was also on its fifth instalment.
Today in 2006 saw the debut of one of those "Marmite" stories you either really like or really hate. Love & Monsters was the 'Doctor-lite' story for the second series. Marc Warren takes centre stage as Elton Pope, and Peter Kay is the Abzorbaloff - a Blue Peter competion-winning entry. Personally, I don't mind it at all.
In 2017 writer Rona Munro returned to the series after a 28 year gap with The Eaters of Light.
With all the excitement surrounding the return to Doctor Who of David Tennant and Catherine Tate, and the imminent arrival of Ncuti Gatwa, you might be forgiven for forgetting that the present occupant of the TARDIS still has one more story to go. That's Jodie Whittaker, who celebrates her 40th birthday today. We will see her final episode sometime in October, when the BBC celebrates its centenary.
Whittaker shares her birthday with Arthur Darvill who played popular companion Rory Williams alongside Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. He was born on the exact same day as the current Doctor, 40 years ago.
