On This Day... 11th June

In 1966 The Savages reached its third episode. The Doctor's life-force had been transferred into the Elder leader Jano by this point, so William Hartnell had an easy week.
2005 saw the debut of Bad Wolf, the opening instalment of the series finale. The Doctor was in the Big Brother House, Rose was in The Weakest Link, and Captain Jack was finding out What Not To Wear...
One of these series is pretty much forgotten about already, and I wonder if any of them will really stand the test of time.

Today we remember the original Ice Warrior - Bernard Bresslaw. There he is above with his sons, sans Varga helmet. He died in 1993, aged 59.
He had yet to find fame as a member of the Carry On... team when he was sent to a boat-builders yard to get fitted for his costume for a Doctor Who story - which surprised him as he thought he was gong to be playing a sort of Viking. It was Bresslaw who decided to give the Ice Warriors their whispering voices - something which has stuck ever since.
The actor Reed de Rouen also passed away on this date in 1986 - the day after his 69th birthday. As well as playing Pa Clanton in The Gunfighters, he was a sci-fi author and script writer. In 1970 he collaborated with his friend Jon Pertwee on a Doctor Who script - "The Spare Part People" - which failed to be picked up for production.
Lastly, Ken Tyllsen also died on this date, aged 75 in 2014. He played two different Sensorites plus a Fungoid in The Chase, as well as operating Daleks in both The Dalek Invasion of Earth and The Evil of the Daleks.
