The Web Planet gave us an episode titled Invasion today in 1965.
Back in the days of individual episode titles we sometimes got overlaps with overall story titles (such as "The Rescue" being both the seventh episode of the first Dalek story and the two-parter which introduced Vicki). This episode title was used again for Part One of Invasion of the Dinosaurs.
In 1971, the BBC used up its entire stocks of the colour orange making The Claws of Axos, whose first episode debuted today. (This is one of the reasons why many other programmes from this era look so drab - honest)... One of the actors who featured in this episode was Michael Walker, who played one of the UNIT radar technicians. He is 81 today.
It's that time of year when the BBC run Red Nose Day, the highlight of Comic Relief. Yesterday we mentioned The Curse of Fatal Death being shown on 12th March 1999. Today in 2009 it was the turn of The Sarah Jane Adventures to contribute to the bi-annual telethon. The evening included a mini adventure in which Sarah and her young companions encountered Ronnie Corbett, playing a disguised Slitheen, in From Raxicoricofallapatorius With Love. David Tennant was one of the hosts for the night.
A trio of Doctor Who villains all shared a birthday today - sadly none of whom are still with us. They were Christopher Gable (Sharaz Jek), Olaf Pooley (Professor Stahlman) and George Pastell (Eric Klieg). Pooley lived to be 101.
