On This Day... 10th May

The Doctor and Sarah were heading for "the biggest bang in history" today in 1975, as Revenge of the Cybermen reached its concluding fourth instalment.
Back in 1969, The War Games was on its fourth episode.
In 2008 we met The Doctor's Daughter - a case of a title being far more interesting than its story.

Today we remember the actor Geoffrey Bayldon, who passed away on this date in 2013, aged 93.
He only appeared in a single Doctor Who story - The Creature from the Pit - but way back in 1963 he was approached about portraying the Doctor. He declined as he was fed up playing "old man parts".
When someone was needed to portray the First Doctor in The Five Doctors he was the first person they thought of, but JNT decided against it as he was too well known for his role as the Crowman opposite Jon Pertwee in Worzel Gummidge. He did eventually play a Doctor on audio - an alternative First one.
Bayldon's partner was the actor Alan Rowe, who featured in four Doctor Who stories.

Dalek operator Robert Jewell also passed away on this date, in 1998 at the age of 78.
His Dalek roles spanned the 1960's - including both of the Peter Cushing Aaru movies. He was also inside a Zarbi costume and worked the cumbersome Macra prop. He got to be seen properly when he played the clown who turns out to be Bing Crosby, encountered by the First Doctor in The Feast of Steven.
