H is for... Half-Face Man

Leader of a group of clockwork repair droids who wanted to transform themselves into human beings. They came from the vessel SS Marie Antoinette, sister ship to the SS Madame de Pompadour. The Tenth Doctor and his companions had earlier encountered the repair droids from the latter ship when they tried to use human body parts to repair their vessel.
The Half-Face Man was stalking Victorian London, killing people and stealing certain of their body parts. These included part of a Tyrannosaurus Rex which had been accidentally brought to the city after swallowing the TARDIS containing the newly regenerated Twelfth Doctor. The repair droids had a base of operations in a restaurant, where they could harvest the parts they needed. The Doctor and Clara visited this restaurant and discovered that the droids had a lair beneath the building. The Half-Face Man got his name from part of his face being missing, exposing the clockwork workings beneath. He could remove his left hand, which had a cutting flame beneath. The Doctor worked out that their spaceship must have crashed back through time for the droids to have known that a dinosaur part would be compatible. When challenged to explain why they were trying to make themselves human, the Half-Face Man could only state that they wished to reach the Place of Perfection. The Doctor and Clara were rescued by the arrival of the Paternoster Gang, who had also called the police. The restaurant was raided but the Half-Face Man escaped in a balloon made of human skin. The Doctor was able to get on board and he offered the Half-Face Man a choice - to kill himself or to be killed. The Half-Face Man fell from the balloon and was impaled on the top of the Big Ben clock tower. Did he fall, or was he pushed...?
His story did not end there, as he suddenly found himself in a beautiful garden, where a woman told him that he had reached the Place of Perfection. This was Missy, the female incarnation of the Master.
If he had truly attained some form of humanity, then he would have next found himself downloaded into a Cyberman body and would have been destroyed when a Cyberform Danny Pink caused the new Cyberman army to self-destruct.

Played by: Peter Ferdinando. Appearances: Deep Breath (2014).
