With a Season One Collection boxset some way off, it has been announced that The Daleks is to be released on DVD / Blu-ray and Steelbook on 12th February next year, with the forthcoming 75 minute colourised version as the main event. The original seven part story will also be included, along with a 15 minute item on the new version. The existing extras from the original DVD release are also promised. This appeared as part of the Beginnings boxset.
No word on whether or not the episodes are to be upscaled for the Blu-ray and Steelbook.
According to DWM there are already plans for another colourised story next year, and RTD went so far as to say he'd like to see every B&W story given this treatment.
Rather sad to see the shorter colour version billed as "more suitable for the modern audience". Patently nonsense as there has been a huge increase in interest in B&W vintage material in recent years. Those with very short attention spans, their minds dumbed down by social media addiction, might favour it, but most of us will still prefer the original 1963/4 episodes with all the material they are going to cut out.
The Tik-Tok / Twitter generation are going to miss so much.
I *think* (but not sure) that the original serial will be included as it was on DVD and not upscaled, whilst the colour version will be in HD.
