M is for... Millington

Commander A.H. Millington, RN, was in charge of a top secret military base in North East England during WWII.
The base housed the Ultima Machine, created by Professor Judson. He was an old friend of Millington's, having gone to school with him. The scientist blamed him for his being confined to a wheelchair.
The device was invented to decode German signals. In order to better understand his foes, Millington had transformed his office into a replica of the Nazi naval cypher room in Berlin. Knowing that Russia would eventually become an enemy after the war, the Commander had planned that Soviet commandos would steal the machine, booby-trapping it to detonate a biological weapon when it attempted to decode a particular codeword - "Love".
Millington had an obsession with Norse mythology and likened current world events to its legends of the end of the world - Ragnarok.
Growing increasingly unbalanced as events at the base escalated, Millington fell under the influence of the ancient alien entity Fenric. His bloodline had been manipulated by Fenric, as had that of Judson, Soviet Captain Sorin, and the Doctor's companion Ace. Driven to help trigger Ragnarok, he began to turn on his own men, accusing an officer named Bates of being a traitor. Before he could kill Bates, he was shot and killed himself by a Russian soldier named Vershinin.

Played by: Alfred Lynch. Appearances: The Curse of Fenric (1989).
  • Lynch began his career at the Royal Court Theatre, as well as working with Joan Littllewood. His first film role was in a comedy alongside Sean Connery - On The Fiddle. Born in Whitechapel, he portrayed Charlie Kray in the 1990 film The Krays.
