I'll give you my thoughts on Legend of the Sea Devils tomorrow - might need a second viewing as I felt it really rather disjointed...
For now, though, news about the trailer which we saw at the end of the episode. This was for the BBC Centenary Special, which should be shown either 16th or 23rd October if on a Sunday (the weekends either side of the BBC's 100th birthday).
The trailer featured Daleks and Cybermen - including the ought-to-be-dead Ashad - plus the Master, in his Sacha Dhawan incarnation. In fact we saw two versions of him - one clean shaven and one with a beard and long hair.
The Doctor is seen wearing the Sanctuary Base spacesuit which several of her predecessors have worn.
A number of companions from earlier episodes are seen, including Kate Stewart of UNIT and Vinder from Flux and - biggest surprise of all - Tegan and Ace from the classic era of the series. They are seen talking to each other by mobile, then firing submachine guns at something.
The episode isn't just the final one for Jodie Whittaker & Chris Chibnall, it is also marking the birthday of the BBC, so it was inevitable that the series' past would be included in some way.
As for the future, this episode should also show us the 14th Doctor for the very first time.
I feel like screaming at the BBC - please let the 14th be Jo Martin or Paul McGann ... and please let Ace and Tegan have an interesting storyline ...
ReplyDeleteJudging by the backgrounds it is Cybermen who Tegan and Ace are shooting at - monsters whom both have met before. Martin is a maybe, but I think McGann unlikely. RTD will either go with someone totally new. or if he does go back to an existing Doctor it will be Tennant or even Eccleston, who has warmed to the series lately.
