F is for... Faraday

Colonel Faraday was placed in charge of the Devesham Space Defence Centre, whilst Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart was away in Geneva. He was on hand to welcome the return of astronaut Guy Crayford to Earth. Crayford had previously been thought killed when contact was lost with the deep space XK-5 cargo ship. When the Colonel and Surgeon-Lieutenant Harry Sullivan went up to the XK-5 to meet Crayford, they were captured by the Kraal scientist Styggron, and replaced with android duplicates. The Doctor rescued them after Styggron had been killed, and the Kraal invasion thwarted.

Played by: Patrick Newell. Appearances: The Android Invasion (1975).
  • Faraday only appears in the final episode - the Kraals not having a duplicate of him in their fake village on Oseidon. Strangely, they don't have one of the Brigadier either. You would expect a copy of the centre's commander to be a key figure in their plans.
  • Newell is probably best remembered for his role as Mother - boss to John Steed and Tara King in The Avengers. He had previously played two other roles in the Emma Peel era, including an appearance in her first ever episode - "The Town of No Return" which shares elements of this story (villagers being replaced).
