On This Day... 1st December

1st December 1979 saw the second episode of Nightmare of Eden premiere.
The second series of The Sarah Jane Adventures was approaching its end point with the debut of Enemy of the Bane's first instalment. This saw the team up of Miss Wormwood, from the pilot story (Invasion of the Bane) with Kaagh, the disgraced Sontaran from the series' opening story. Helping Sarah Jane Smith and her young companions was a certain Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.

Today's birthday of note is Deep Roy. He played two roles in Doctor Who, the best known of which is the murderous ventriloquist dummy Mr Sin, in The Talons of Weng-Chiang. He returned to the series, uncredited, as the Posicarian delegate in Trial of a Time Lord: Mindwarp. Roy is the only actor to have appeared in all the big Sci-Fi franchises - Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars, as well as The X-Files.
Thanks to digital trickery, he portrayed all of the Oompa-Loompas in the Tim Burton Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He turns 64 today.
