Assimilation Squared Issue 5
Last time, the Cybermen turned against their allies. Picard was pleased - my enemy's enemy is my friend. He has no intention of helping the Borg. This issue has a flashback to the events of the "Best of Both Worlds" ST:TNG season 3 finale / season 4 opener to show why Picard is so resolved not to deal with the Borg - or even to speak with them. (If you don't know, he was captured and turned into a Borg - Locutus - and was made to help destroy the Federation fleet at the battle of Wolf 359)
The Doctor knows the Cybermen - and fears what they will become if they have additional Borg technology. If Picard won't listen to him - or even Guinan - maybe Amy will get through. She brings the Captain to the holo-deck where the Doctor is waiting with the TARDIS. He takes him forward in time to show him what the future might hold, should the Cybermen remain unchecked.
We get to see Cyber-Klingons, Cyber-Judoon and even Cyber-Raxacoricofallapatorians. Picard finally gets to see the ruined Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco, its personnel being marched into Cyber-conversion units. The threat isn't just to this universe, but every universe - as there are Cybermen in all of them. Picard finally accepts that he is going to have to deal with the Borg.
A bit heavy on dialogue and short on action this month. Things still moving quite slowly. The glimpses of future Cyber races apart, the villains of the piece are still absent from the plot.
Next time, the Doctor meets the Borg - so hopefully we'll get the back story of the initial Cyber-Borg alliance, and find out what the Cybermen are really up to.
