Ky was a young man from the planet Solos who was opposed to the domination of the planet by the Overlords - imperial troops from Earth. The planet had been subjugated for centuries, exploited for its rich radioactive thaesium deposits. Ky led a popular political movement which campaigned for independence. His rival - Varan - he saw as a collaborator with the humans.
The Earth Empire of the 30th Century was on the decline and it was planned that independence would be granted, but the Overlord Marshal who ruled the planet refused to give it up. He had the Earth Administrator assassinated before he could announce his plans, and the blame was placed on Ky. The Doctor had just arrived on Skybase, from where the Overlords ruled, on a mission from the Time Lords. He had a casket which was programmed to open only for Ky. It contained stone tablets which gave clues to the evolution of Ky's people. Solos had centuries-long seasons and when Spring came the people began to mutate into insect-like creatures. A special crystal aided the metamorphosis as they then evolved into ethereal super-beings with great powers.
The process affected Ky and he soon turned into the first of the super-beings. He used his great powers to vapourise the Marshal. A human scientist named Sondergaard, who lived in exile on Solos, agreed to help more of Ky's people go through the evolutionary process.
Played by: Garrick Hagon. Appearances: The Mutants (1972).
- Hagon's biggest role was unfortunately trimmed down to just a couple of scenes. He was cast as Biggs Darklighter, Luke Skywalker's best friend from Tatooine, in the first Star Wars movie. He appeared early in the film, about to go off and join the rebellion, and later Luke was reunited with him prior to the Death Star attack. All the Tatooine material was cut.
- He returned to the series in A Town Called Mercy, where he played the town undertaker.
