Very sorry to hear that the actor Sonny Caldinez passed away earlier this week. He was 89.
Trinidadian Caldinez first appeared in Doctor Who in The Evil of the Daleks, when he portrayed Theodore Maxtible's manservant Kemel. Set up as a villain, tasked with stopping Jamie from rescuing Victoria Waterfield, Kemel became friends with the Doctor and his companions after Jamie saved his life.
Caldinez was back just a few months later, but this time hidden under an Ice Warrior costume. This was in The Ice Warriors, their debut story. He played Turoc, the Warrior who chases Victoria through the ice caverns but is killed by an avalanche.
He was asked back to play another Ice Warrior in The Seeds of Death, and then played the sole Warrior Izlyr who features in The Curse of Peladon.
He was another named Ice Warrior - Sskel - in The Monster of Peladon - his final appearance in the show. Caldinez usually wore the costume that had been created for Bernard Bresslaw in the first Ice Warrior story.
As well as Doctor Who, Caldinez, who had once been a wrestler, appeared in a number of big budget action movies. I spotted him recently in the big bar fight sequence near the start of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and he can easily be spotted in The Man With The Golden Gun. He's the technician / heavy on Scaramanga's island, whose death triggers its destruction.
RIP.
